STREAMLINE GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT POLICY

1.    Introduction

Streamline Global is an ethical, family owned and run organisation, with a proud 45- year history. We are headquartered in Scotland, with three satellite locations in England.

We trade under two companies supplying products to various public and private sector clients, in the UK and abroad

Streamline Corporate Ltd - supplying corporate clothing, safety clothing and  PPE

Windsor Displays Ltd – supplying digital signage and video walls

We have international, multi-tier supply chains, with suppliers based across the world.

We acknowledge that our actions have an impact upon the environment and commit to taking proactive steps to reduce our environmental impact. In support of our environmental management commitment, we have implemented procedures to:

•    Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental legislation and regulations
•    Minimise waste through prevention, re-use and recycling
•    Minimise consumption of natural resources
•    Promote responsibility for the environment within our organisation
•    Communicate and implement this policy within the workforce
•    Identify and provide appropriate training, advice and information for staff to allow them to comply with this policy
•    Improve waste management practices and minimise waste by reduction, re- use and recycling methods
•    Reduce emissions and preventing pollution
•    Minimise noise and other nuisances
•    Continuously assess our environmental performance
•    Work with environmentally responsible suppliers
•    Promote environmental responsibility throughout our supply chain

This Environmental policy provides the framework for setting and reviewing environmental objectives and targets. Our environmental policy is documented, implemented, maintained and communicated to employees. This policy will be regularly reviewed and updated to take account of organisational priorities and changes, environmental legislation and best practice.

2.    Accreditations and Professional Memberships
We have been ISO14001 accredited since 2012 and have successfully passed every annual audit. We are members of SEDEX, (Suppliers Ethical Data Exchange) which allows us to check the environmental credentials of existing and potential suppliers, and ensure we work with companies which mirror our high environmental standards.

3.    Risk Assessment and Management

We have implemented processes to prevent environmental non-conformities and we have contingency plans in place to minimise any potential environmental issues.

Below show our top environmental risks and mitigation strategies:

Environmental Risk    1.    Excessive carbon emissions.

Mitigation Strategies - Annual staff training, coordinated vehicle movements, annual environmental audits performed by an external auditor.

Environmental Risk     2.    Excessive waste.

Mitigation Strategies - Waste materials are separated to ensure as much material as possible is recycled / reused. We also pursue industry best practice  by  implementing  initiatives  such  as Bag2School and the National Hard Hat Recycling Scheme.

Environmental Risk     3.    Engaging a supplier with poor environmental management credentials.

Mitigation Strategies - We check supplier memberships on the BSIF Registered Safety Supplier (RSS) database or equivalent, and we contact the relevant body to confirm membership. Our membership of SEDEX enables us to check the standards
and audit results of existing and potential suppliers.

Environmental Risk     4.    Pollution caused by spillage of controlled substances.

Mitigation Strategies - All controlled substances are stored in locked cabinets, all personnel accessing these materials have been trained in correct handling methods and spillage kits are co-located
next to the cabinets.

4.    Key Performance Indicators
The Streamline key performance indicators relevant to environmental management, and our most recent results, are as follows:

Objective:    1.    Ensure at least 80% of waste is sent for recycling / re-use, with a maximum of20% being sent to landfill.

Target:       80% of waste sent for recycling / re-use

2022 Results:     Achieved

Objective:  2.    Market    our    re-use,    recycling    and remanufacturing service to all clients.

Target:       At least once annually

2022 Results:  Achieved

Objective:   3.    Engage with our supply chain to explore new / alternative products that could be introduced to increase our collective
circular economy outputs.

Target:       At least once annually

2022 Results:  Achieved

Objective:   4.    Investigate other recycling and circular economy schemes available, including social enterprises.

Target:       At least once annually

2022 Results:  Achieved

5.    Training on Environmental Management

We are committed to providing relevant environmental training and promoting environmental awareness to employees and, where appropriate, to suppliers and to communicating our environmental performance.

Environmental awareness training is given to all staff members as part of induction and refresher training. Our environmental KPIs are explained, and we provide information on how we intend to achieve the desired results. The topics covered include, but are not limited to:

•    Recycling materials
•    Waste separation
•    Vehicle usage
•    Water usage
•    Carbon calculation & reduction
•    Correct disposal of pollutants
•    Reduction in energy consumption

This policy is also displayed in all our premises and shared with all existing and prospective suppliers.

6.    Environmental Management Procedures
Our main environmental management procedures - as externally third party audited against ISO14001:2015 - are summarised below:

6.1    Waste Management

Streamline separate all waste to ensure that as much as possible is recycled as opposed to going to landfill. All our staff members are regularly informed of the importance of waste management, and specific initiatives we follow include:

•    Waste paper is recycled.
•    We buy paper from recycled sources.
•    Ink cartridges are re-usable.
•    All batteries are rechargeable.
•    Most main electrical items are on timers and turn themselves off after 30 minutes of not being used.

6.2    Vehicle Movements
We monitor our work-related vehicle movements very carefully to minimise our fuel usage. We have an active car share scheme which is not just for travelling between sites and visiting clients, but also for our staff travelling to and from work. We also optimise the routes to ensure that material deliveries and staff transport are conducted as efficiently as possible. All vehicles have an information pack which also includes a memo to remind drivers to remain within legal speed limits and this is also displayed on our site notice boards. All drivers are provided with a H&S driver handbook, which is read, signed and kept within each vehicle. The handbook has been devised in conjunction with our insurers and is reviewed internally yearly or when legislation may alter.

6.3    Carbon Reduction
Streamline has a target of achieving Net Zero by 2040. We have set annual reduction target of 12% for scopes 1 & 3 which we track and report on annually. We moved to 100% renewable energy in 2021 and consequently have zero scope 2 emissions. As a company with turnover under £36M and with less than 250 staff, we are not required to report on the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) Framework, however we do report internally against the following reduction targets.

Scope 1
•    Net zero by 2040
•    70% reduction by 2030
•    12% annual reduction

Scope 2
•    100% Renewable energy – achieved 2021

Scope 3
•    Supplier onboarding form includes carbon reduction questionnaire
•    Suppliers required to match or better Streamline’s targets
•    Supply chain carbon reduction reporting via Sedex platform

6.4    Energy Consumption
Streamline trains all staff in good housekeeping including switching off all lighting and electrical equipment when not in use. This reduces energy consumption, helps save costs, lowers our environmental impact, and promotes sustainability.

Lighting - Streamline have invested in LED lighting throughout our offices and warehouses and installed occupancy sensors to automatically turn off lights in unoccupied areas.

HVAC – Streamline have a Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning system with programmable thermostats and smart controls to optimize temperature settings based on office occupancy and working hours. This VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume/Flow) system alternates the refrigerant volume in the system to match our building's precise requirements. Only a minimum amount of energy is required for the system to maintain set temperatures and ensure that it automatically shuts off when no occupants are detected in a room. The system is regularly maintained including the cleaning or replacing of filters and ensuring proper operation to prevent air leaks.

Monitoring – Streamline have installed smart meters and an energy monitoring system to track energy consumption in real-time and identify areas where improvements can be made. All energy bills are analysed monthly and compared to previous periods to monitor progress and detect any abnormalities.

6.5    Pollution Control
Streamline abides by a strict set of rules to avoid any pollution incidents. This is evident by the fact that we have never experienced any complaints or investigations regarding pollution.

On each contract we identify any potential pollutants and how we will dispose of them responsibly. We also recognise that noise pollution is an important factor when planning work. We always consider the impact of our operations on residents and other businesses in the vicinity of our sites.

6.6    Sustainable Procurement
It is the stated aim of Streamline to continually reduce the impact of our business on the environment by applying the principles of sustainable procurement. Our commitments, whenever possible, are to:

•    Purchase materials which are made in part or wholly from recycled materials.
•    Purchase materials which come from a sustainable source, including our Streamline FSC Chain of Custody Certification sustainably sourced forestry products range,
•    Purchase materials which are recyclable.
•    Purchase materials which have an accreditation or logo to indicate they are “fair trade”.
•    Purchase materials which are energy and water efficient.
•    Purchase materials which have minimum packaging and liaise with long term suppliers to reduce the amount of packaging.
•    Consider disposal costs when purchasing materials.
•    Comply as a minimum with all relevant environmental legislation.

6.7    Packaging

•    Use recycled shooter paper rather than bubble wrap

•    No external plastic strapping on boxes
